QLess alternative: why Acorn Check In might fit better
Updated 2026-08-24
Free, unlimited check-ins. Under 2 minutes to set up.
Who QLess is built for
QLess is built for large institutions where queueing is the operation itself: state agencies and DMVs, hospitals and labs, universities. At that scale you need integrations, staffing analytics, a rollout plan, and a vendor who will sit in procurement with you. QLess does that work, and it is genuinely a different category of job from what Acorn Check In does.
Where QLess fits a business with one door less well
There is no way to just try it
The entry point is a demo request, which is the correct shape for a six figure institutional rollout and the wrong shape for a barbershop owner deciding something on a Tuesday night. Acorn Check In is a signup form and a printed sheet.
You cannot see the price
Quoted pricing works when the deployment is genuinely bespoke. When you have one door and one question, the absence of a number on a page is itself the friction. Acorn Check In publishes its price because the price is nothing.
The product assumes an institution around it
Kiosks, staff analytics, and system integrations all assume there is somebody whose job is to run them. A shop with three chairs does not have that person and does not need one.
How Acorn Check In is different
Acorn Check In is what a small business can set up without talking to anybody. Sign in, name the business, print the QR sheet, tape it by the door. It is free, it takes under 2 minutes, and the whole product is a live list of who is waiting and for how long. QLess is enterprise queue infrastructure. Acorn Check In is a sign on a door.

Pricing
Acorn Check In is free. Unlimited check-ins, the live staff list, and your QR code cost nothing, and staff text alerts are included up to 50 per location per month. There is no paid plan today.
QLess does not publish pricing. The path in is a demo request, and terms are quoted per organization. Contact them through their site for numbers.
Who should stay with QLess
Stay with QLess if queueing is your operation rather than a side effect of it: a DMV, a hospital system, a university registrar. If you need kiosk hardware, integration with systems of record, analytics your staffing plan depends on, or a contract and an implementation team, Acorn Check In is not a substitute and pretending otherwise would waste your time.
Getting started
There is no migration and nothing to import. Sign in, type your business name, print the QR sheet, and tape it where people walk in. If it does not suit you, stop using it. Nothing to cancel.
Questions
How much does Acorn Check In cost compared to QLess?
Acorn Check In is free, with unlimited check-ins and no paid plan to upgrade to today. QLess quotes per organization and does not publish pricing, so compare against a quote rather than against a list price.
Do I have to book a demo to use Acorn Check In?
No. There is no demo, no sales call, and no procurement step. You sign in, type your business name, and print the QR sheet.
How long does setup actually take?
Under 2 minutes. Sign in with Google or an emailed link, name the business, print the sheet, tape it where people walk in.
Does Acorn Check In integrate with our other systems?
No. There are no integrations. If check-in data needs to flow into a system of record, QLess is built for that and Acorn Check In is not.
Can Acorn Check In run on kiosk hardware?
No. Visitors use their own phones and staff use theirs. There is no kiosk mode and no hardware to buy or maintain.
Is Acorn Check In suitable for a government office or hospital?
Only for the simplest case, a single door where you want to know who arrived. Anything involving compliance requirements, integrations, or staffing analytics belongs with a platform built for it.
What happens to visitor data?
Names are deleted 30 days after the visit and phone numbers within 24 hours, both automatically. Raw visitor IP addresses are never stored.
